1.4876 / 1.4958: Corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant
nickel-iron-chrome alloy
The material 1.4876 / 1.4958 or X10NiCrAlTi32-20 / X10NiCrAlTi31-20 is a
rustproof, heat-resistant nickel-iron-chromium alloy. The name Alloy 800H is
also common. Depending on the manufacturer and version, 1.4876 / 1.4958 has a
chemical composition of 0.05 - 0.10% carbon, 19.0 - 23.0% chromium, 0.5 - 1.0%
manganese, max. 0.015% phosphorus, max. 0.01% sulfur, 0.2 to 0.6% silicon, 30.0
- 35.0% nickel, 39.5 to 50.0% iron, max. 0.5% copper, 0.15 - 0.6% aluminum,
0.15-0.6% titanium as well as aluminum and titanium combined 0.3 - 1.2%. By
limiting the sum of aluminum and titanium to max. The drop in toughness between
500 and 750 กใ C can be reduced by 0.7%. For workpieces that are often exposed to
temperatures from 500 to 700 กใ C, Alloy 800H is more suitable than its Alloy
800HT variant. Another variant is Alloy 800HP / Alloy 800HT or 1.4959 with a
different directional analysis. The corrosion resistance and heat resistance are
granted at 1.4876 / 1.4958. At high temperatures, the austenitic stainless steel
maintains its metallurgical stability over longer periods. In certain
temperature ranges 1.4876 / 1.4958 is well resistant in sulfur-containing
oxidizing, nitrogenous and reducing media. In particular, 1.4876 / 1.4958 has
good resistance to carburizing up to approx. 1000 กใ C, provided that a
protective, thin oxide layer was formed by pre-oxidation. The creep rupture
strength at high temperatures above 600 กใ C is improved by solution annealing.
In the solution annealed condition 1.4876 / 1.4958 has a tensile strength of 450
MPa at room temperature, a yield strength of min. 170 MPa and an elongation of
30% across and 35% lengthways.
The scope of delivery of Georg Grimm Edelstahlgroßhandlung GmbH with the quality
1.4876 / 1.4958 or Alloy 800H includes steel bars, bright steel, wire, sheet
metal, semi-finished products and forgings. Round steel, flat steel, hexagonal
steel, square steel and angles are available for grade 1.4959 depending on the
volume.
1.4876 / 1.4958: Good processability through solution annealing
The hot forming of 1.4876 / 1.4958 has to be carried out at temperatures of 1200
- 900 กใ C with subsequent quenching in water or in the air. A temperature range
of 1150 to 1000 กใ C should be selected for hot bending. A stay at temperatures
of 760 to 540 กใ C should be avoided if possible. 1.4876 / 1.4958 should be
heated to a maximum working temperature of 1200 กใ C in the oven. A holding time
of approx. 60 minutes occurs per 100 mm thickness. Alloy 800H has good ductility
and is good cold and hot formable. Compared to other austenitic stainless
steels, Alloy 800H has a high tendency to work hardening. Annealed workpieces
are suitable for cold forming. Stronger cold working may require additional
intermediate annealing. An annealing should be carried out urgently for
deformations above 10%. In the course of the heat treatment, the solution
annealing must be carried out at 1150 - 1200 กใ C with rapid cooling under water.
With strengths of max. 1.5 mm quick air cooling is also possible. In the
solution-annealed state, a maximum Brinell hardness of 192 HB can be achieved.
The operating temperature is 600 - 950 กใ C. Basically all common welding
processes can be used for 1.4876 / 1.4958, e.g. B. TIG welding, TIG hot wire
welding, MIG / MAG welding, plasma welding, MMA welding, submerged arc welding
or manual arc welding. With Alloy 800H, preheating or subsequent heat treatment
is usually not necessary. When processing, make sure that the workpiece is
solution annealed, bare metal and completely free of tension and dirt
(especially grease, markings or scale). Due to the high work hardening, a low
cutting speed and a sufficient depth of cut must be set when machining 1.4876 /
1.4958. Adequate heat dissipation must also be ensured with the help of
water-containing cooling lubricants. When all welding work has been carried out,
a stable anneal is carried out for safety, since the heat affected zones of the
welds are particularly susceptible to cracking. The pickling should be done in
nitric hydrofluoric acid and the pickling baths should be carefully monitored
for concentration and temperature. Machining should preferably be carried out at
low cutting speeds in the solution annealed condition.
1.4876 / 1.4958: Heat-resistant stainless steel for furnace construction and the
chemical industry
1.4876 - The material data sheet at Georg Grimm Edelstahlgroßhandlung GmbH
Wuppertal
The heat-resistant stainless steel 1.4876 / 1.4958 has a wide range of
applications thanks to its good workability. Above all, Alloy 800H proves to be
a reliable partner for use at high temperatures. 1.4876 / 1.4958 is therefore
preferably used in furnace construction, e.g. B. in the form of muffle. Alloy
800H is also used for burner components and components for heat treatment
systems such as B. heat exchanger tubes, brackets, baskets and other containers
in the high temperature range. In addition, it is used for parts exposed to
hydrogen sulfide in petrochemicals and for parts for use in hydrogen production.
Grade 1.4876 / 1.4958 is also widespread in the chemical industry. The
austenitic stainless steel is used in petrochemicals and the like. a. for parts
exposed to hydrogen sulfide. In addition, refineries use Alloy 800H, for example
for flares. Due to its excellent resistance to hydrogen embrittlement,
carburization and nitrification, the austenitic stainless steel 1.4876 / 1.4958
is suitable for use in contact with hydrogen as well as for steam / hydrocarbon
reformers, ethylene pyrolysis and systems in the production of ketone and acetic
acid hydride. Alloy 800H is also used to manufacture components for the
high-temperature range in power plant construction. Other areas of application
of 1.4876 / 1.4958 include the automotive industry, environmental protection
systems, laboratory technology and quench systems.
