What is superalloy?

Superalloys, also known as high-temperature alloys, are a general term for iron-based, nickel-based and cobalt-based high-temperature alloys. It has high endurance, creep and fatigue strength at high temperature, and its operating temperature can reach about 1100℃. The typical organization is an austenitic matrix and a reinforcing phase distributed diffusely in it, which can be a carbide phase, an intermetallic compound phase or a stable compound mass.

According to the alloy composition and use on the demand, you can choose the electric arc furnace, induction furnace, vacuum induction furnace for primary melting or use vacuum self-consumption furnace or electroslag furnace for remelting of the parent alloy, there are processes using electron beam or low-pressure plasma as a high heat energy source for melting. In the casting process, in addition to conventional precision casting, directional crystallization and single crystal technology has been widely used, rapid solidification powder metallurgy and mechanical alloying process are also two preparation methods. High-temperature alloys are widely used in aviation, aerospace, naval, locomotive, power generation and petrochemical industries.
Common super alloys (high temperature alloys) are nickel-based alloys Inconel 718, Inconel 625, Nimonic 263, Nimonic 901, HastelloyC-276, etc.; iron-based alloys A286, AM350, N 155, etc.; cobalt-based alloys Haynes 188, Stellite 31, etc.
