Hastelloy N

HASTELLOY S (UNS N06635) is a nickel-based high temperature alloy with a unique combination of properties. It has excellent thermal stability, low thermal expansion, and excellent oxidation resistance to 2000 °F (1093 °C). In addition, the alloy has good high temperature and thermal fatigue strength.S The alloy retains its strength and ductility after aging at 800 to 1600 °F (427 to 871 °C).

HASTELLOY S alloy was developed for applications involving severe cyclic heating conditions where components must be able to retain their strength, ductility and metallurgical integrity after prolonged exposure. It is widely used as a sealing ring in gas turbine engines where its low coefficient of thermal expansion is also important.HASTELLOY S alloy is available in sheet, plate, strip, billet, bar, wire, pipe and tube forms. Unless otherwise noted, all forged forms of S alloys are available in solution heat treated conditions. The standard heat treatment is 1950 °F (1066 °C), followed by cooling in air or hydrogen. Because the alloy is so stable, the cooling rate from slow furnace cooling to rapid ice brine quenching has little effect on mechanical properties. HASTELLOY S alloy is easy to forge and can be cold worked due to its excellent ductility. It can be welded by both manual and automatic welding methods, including gas-shielded tungsten arc (GTAW) and gas-shielded metal arc (GMAW). Forging should be performed in the temperature range of 2100 °F (1145 °C) to 1600 °F (871 °C) until the final 20% reduction of the cross section. The final 20% reduction should be from approximately 1900 °F (1038 °C) to 1500 °F (816 °C). Hastelloy S has excellent thermal stability, low thermal expansion and excellent oxidation resistance at 1093 °C. It has good high temperature and thermal fatigue strength. It retains its strength and ductility after aging at temperatures from 427 to 871 °C. Hastelloy S is particularly suitable for cyclic heating conditions where components must be able to maintain their strength, ductility and metallurgical integrity after prolonged exposure. Applications: Industrial furnace and gas turbine engine seal rings
