Hastelloy G-30

Hastelloy G-30 is a high chromium content nickel based alloy that has superior corrosion resistance to commercial phosphoric acid and many highly oxidizing acid media in mixed environments such as nitric/hydrochloric, nitric/hydrofluoric and sulfuric acid compared to most other nickel and iron based alloys.

Hastelloy G-30 alloy prevents the formation of grain boundary precipitation in the weld heat affected zone, making its weldable form suitable for a variety of chemical processing engineering applications. Process properties and requirements for Hastelloy G-30.  Heat treatment: Unless otherwise specified, forgings of Hastelloy G-30 alloy are subjected to solidification heat treatment. The solid-fusion heat treatment is heated at 1177°C, followed by rapid air cooling or water quenching. Hot formed parts are subjected to a solid-fusion heat treatment prior to final fabrication and installation.  Forming: G-30 alloy has very good machinability and is best formed by cold working. Due to its good toughness, it is easy to cold work. The alloy is generally harder than austenitic stainless steels, so more energy is required for cold working. Hastelloy G-30 Welding  Hastelloy G-30 alloy can be welded by tungsten inert gas shielded arc welding (GTAW), metal electrode gas shielded arc welding (GMAW) and electrode arc welding processes. It has similar welding properties to Hastelloy G-3 alloy. We do not recommend the use of submerged arc welding, which is characterized by high heat input to the base material and slow cooling. Base material preparation: Before welding, the joint surface and its adjacent areas must be thoroughly cleaned. All oil, grease, chalk marks, sulfides and other substances must be removed. Welding filler material selection: When welding, a filler metal material of matching composition is permitted. We recommend G-30 wire (ERNiCrMo-11; UNS N06030) for tungsten inert gas shielded arc welding and metal electrode gas shielded arc welding, and electrode arc welding with electrodes of G-30 alloy (ENiCrMo-11; UNS W06030).
